Google Brings Augmented Reality to Search Results

Google announced earlier this year that it would be adding Augmented Reality to its search engine results. Videos and images have already started to take priority over text-based results on Google search. Now AR is becoming the next content format for websites to drive their organic search results. Google has also extended its AR offering to include augmented reality navigation on Google Maps.

“So whether you’re studying human anatomy in school or shopping for a pair of sneakers, you’ll be able to interact with 3D models and put them into the real world, right from Search.”

Facebook AR Ads

In 2018, Facebook introduced AR advertisements on its social media platform. “From try-on product experiences to immersive filters for games and movies, AR enables people to connect with your business and products in new ways. Now, with the introduction of AR ads in Facebook News Feed, people can experiment with your brand’s AR camera effects in just one click from your ad. And by incorporating calls-to-action within the camera experience, people can seamlessly go from engaging with your product -such as trying on a lipstick shade or exploring a new game -to making a purchase or installing an app.” -Facebook Business Blog.

Brands Adopting AR

Tech giants are clearly betting big on the future of online Augmented Reality as it slowly becomes an everyday party of consumers lives. We are already seeing this shift take place as other global brands increasingly embrace augmented reality and use it to engage with their fans. Multinational companies such as Audi, Ikea and L’Oreal have added value for their customers through the innovate use of augmented reality.
